School Day
Most CCA students ride the bus and will arrive at 7:45 AM. Students who do not ride the bus should arrive at CCA everyday by 8:00 AM.
By 8:05 AM daily, students must have fulfilled several morning responsibilities and be seated in the appropriate place within the school.
As shown on the schedule, students engage in a vocabulary program called Rev It Up! before regular academic class periods begin. Starting at 8:20 AM, students have seven 50-minute class periods. The classes are broken up by a 10-minute morning break, a 25-minute lunch period, and a 25-minute silent reading period (DEAR). In addition, on Monday through Thursday, students have either a PE or an art class during the regular academic day.
Students who earn detention will serve it during their lunch period on Tuesday and Thursday.
At 3:10 PM, students organize their materials for dismissal and engage in Focus, during which they complete homework assignments with teacher assistance. Small group tutoring sessions will also take place during this time.
At 3:50 PM, all students should return to their homeroom, receive and eat their snack, and prepare for first dismissal. First dismissal occurs at 4:00 PM. Students will be missed by the Administrator-on-duty. Teachers should remain at their dismissal post (likely a homeroom or stairwell) until all students have been dismissed to go home or to an afterschool activity. Students in the Homework Center intervention or in an After School Club will remain at school from 4:00 until 5:00 PM.
On Fridays, students begin their day with more substantive homeroom discussions which will vary in design but in general will touch on matters of character, integrity, and team-building. Starting at 8:35 AM, students have two 50-minute classes followed by a 10-minute break and two more 50-minute classes. Students have lunch at 12:05, and then have their final class of the day.
At 1:20 PM, students receive their weekly STRIVE Report, a comprehensive report of student performance. All students transition to an all-school Community Meeting at 1:35 which functions as a weekly wrap-up.
Students who earn a STRIVE score of 65 or above are eligible to participate in Enrichment classes beginning at 2:15. Other students serve Academic Extension or Detention based on their report.
